Welcome to Round Lake, IL. This town features a welcoming Midwestern temperament, low crime, reasonable home and consumer prices, favorable real estate trends and the smattering of water in northeastern Illinois make Round Lake an attractive suburb.
Admittedly, some may be skeptical that there's nothing else to the Round Lake, IL region other than good things and pleasantries. One might object on the following grounds: harsh weather and a length commute to Chicago.
Well, Round Lake can't and won't claim perfection. The fact is that “bundle up” is a standard operating procedure for a significant part of the year. Though visitors and prospective residents should know that the variability means that what they might have heard about the region's weather is likely to be infrequent outliers. The heat and cold can be a shock at first, especially if one arrives in the dead of winter or summer. However, acclimation is a real phenomenon and can lead to significant bragging rights and inner strength for resilient residents.
As for travel to the Windy City, Round Lake has a very valuable Metra Station that, especially with a convenient Express schedule, can get residents from Round Lake into the core of Chicago surprisingly fast. At the same time, the distance means that the hassles of living in a big city are nearly absent in Round Lake; this is a point worth significant consideration for anyone who wants to assume that Round Lake might be an “extension of Chicago.” It's not quite that.
Round Lake has its own culture and a political/economic foundation at the level of Lake and McHenry counties. Population and employment continue to grow and will do so in the near future, with benefits for the entire Round Lake region. This foundation manages excellent schools, has achieved low unemployment and crime, and maintains a keen appreciation for the local population's desires and priorities.
